Report of 2019 Yulong Autumn Sale and Richest Raceday in mainland China

China Horse Owners Alliance (CHOA) held its annual conference at Yulong international hotel and passed the CHOA’s statutes on the 5th of September. The Alliance also announced its inspiring prizemoney for China-born thoroughbreds: 3 million RMB/420,000 USD of Golden Slipper (2020) and it will be worth 5 million RMB/700,000 USD in 2021. Also in the announcement is the richest race in mainland China – the 2 million RMB/280,000 USD CHOA Chairman Cup, open to all thoroughbreds, will be worth 5 million RMB/700,000 USD in 2020 and 8 million RMB/1.1 million USD in 2021.

On the 6th of September, Yulong Autumn Sale started with 119 horses catalogued (14 supplements) and the turnover was 12.915 million RMB/1.8 million USD, delivering a 49.1% clearance rate.

This is Yulong’s fourth sale and the topper is the supplemented, 2018 China’s Horse of Year, Hui Tong Tian Xia (CHN), by Fruits of Love (USA). The 3YO colt was purchased by Mr. ZHANG Yuesheng, owner of Yulong, for 1.8 million RMB in the Spring Sale and topped the sale again for a record of 2.4 million RMB/340,000 USD.

The richest raceday in mainland China (4.65 million RMB/650,000 USD) was held the next day while
Hui Tong Tian Xia (CHN) claimed the 600,000 RMB/83,800 USD CHOA “Derby Cup” which took his unbeaten record to 11 races.

The 600,000 RMB/83,800 USD CHOA "Breeders' Cup" was scored by Xiao Fei Lu (CHN), a 2YO filly which won 3 races from 3 starts.

 

The much-coveted 1600-metre 2 million RMB CHOA “Chairman Cup” went to Yong Qiang Xuan Feng (IRE), a 4YO son of Sir Prancealot (IRE). He kicked it into high gear just in time and waltzed home an easy winner of the richest race in mainland China.

Tattersalls/Tattersalls Ireland sponsored two races – 1200-metre Ireland Stakes and 1800-metre Long Distance Stakes, which were walked away by Qing Shen Yi Chang (IRE), a 2YO filly by Anjaal (GB) and Xing Hui (IRE), a 3YO filly by Most Improved (IRE) respectively.

 

Hua Yu Feng Fan (AUS), a 3YO colt of Walking Or Dancing (NZ) emerged triumphant at the newly-setup 1 million RMB/140,000 USD Inglis Guineas.
